The rapid growth of peer-to-peer traffic (P2P) is a major challenge for service providers, enterprises, and other organizations to control their WAN links. Pumping data through a large number of simultaneous TCP and UDP connections, P2P applications are bandwidth aggressive and often completely block out other applications from using the bandwidth. To deal with this situation, Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) technology has been developed to identify those P2P applications and block or suppress them from overly using bandwidth. But more and more customers have realized that DPI-based traffic control is intrusive, expensive, and performance-limiting. To make it worse, the recent evolution of P2P applications has imposed even greater challenges in recognizing and suppressing the new P2P traffic through DPI-based traffic control. Some P2P applications, especially in Asia-Pacific region, for instance, Thunder, are now capable of disguising their data streams to be completely indistinguishable from normal web browsing traffic content-wise. If this trend continues, DPI-based solutions will soon completely lose their effectiveness on traffic control. To answer this, AppEx has developed a unique traffic control technology, named IPEQ, which enables the customers to regain the control over their WAN links without the risks that comes with DPI-based mechanisms. AppEx IPEQ is the first in the industry to achieve End-to-End QoS on IP networks in a unilateral deployment. By reverse-controlling the peers' transmission behaviors for both TCP and UDP connections, AppEx IPEQ is capable of: 1. Accurately provisioning the incoming traffic within the bandwidth capacity. 2. Completely eliminating the congestions on WAN links. 3. Enabling mission-critical applications to use bandwidth with higher priorities. 4. Dynamically balancing bandwidth usages among applications/hosts of the same importance. 5. Achieving highest bandwidth efficiency for customers. In addition, AppEx IPEQ is very easy to use and do not need the complicated and costly maintenances that are required by the DPI based products.
